Thought leader and pioneering role in occupational safety

Phoenix Contact introduced the digital health coach Isa (ergo move) as part of the health promotion programme to strengthen employees' health awareness and routines. Careful observations by the occupational health and safety experts revealed positive side effects that addressed an acute need in occupational health and safety and significantly improved the effectiveness of situational prevention in the office context. In addition to this impetus for the development of "Isa - risk assessment" Phoenix Contact also supported Deep Care as the first pilot customer in the development of the same.

Phoenix Contact, a leading global provider in the electrical engineering industry with over 20,000 employees, decided in 2023 to help its employees adopt a healthier working style with Deep Care and "Isa - ergo move" as part of its workplace health promotion programme. To this end, its office employees were given access to a Deep Care booking platform to book several weeks of coaching from the digital health assistant (Isa). The device is then sent to the target address in the office or home office at the specified time.

During the several weeks of use, "Isa - ergo move" analyses ergonomics and movement behaviour, among other things, in order to mirror office workers' own health behaviour and to optimise it step by step with targeted tips until a routine develops for them.

Some Isa users, especially those working from home, began to redesign their workstations themselves in order to meet Isa's ergonomic requirements. Elisabeth Strathaus, Head of Occupational Safety at Phoenix Contact, observed this and commented: "That's exactly what we want to achieve with our work. Isa works like a risk assessment for the home office, but with real effectiveness monitoring."

Based on this feedback, Deep Care and Phoenix Contact began working together to explore how existing approaches to risk assessment in the home environment could be improved. In light of legal requirements, the rise of hybrid working models in recent years and the need to protect and promote the health of employees regardless of where they work, the experts at Phoenix Contact saw great potential in sensor-based effectiveness monitoring as part of risk assessment.

In numerous co-operative workshops, development sprints and practical tests "Isa - risk assessment"the world's first interactive risk assessment with real effectiveness monitoring. The AI- and sensor-based approach not only provides a snapshot of the working environment, but also accompanies employees over a period of two weeks. Isa - risk assessment covers all the content of a regular risk assessment, gives a clear impression of the actual situation and supports employees in organising their workplace individually and optimally with the available resources.

Phoenix Contact has now integrated "Isa - risk assessment" as a standard measure for all employees who regularly work from home. Phoenix Contact is thus demonstrating a strong commitment to the health and well-being of its workforce and is taking a significant step towards healthy working in a hybrid working environment.
