Isa is getting better: the digital health solution for sustainable health promotion in the workplace

Table of contents

Many employees spend the majority of their working day sitting down - often with an unfavourable posture and without sufficient movement. This not only leads to tension and back pain, but can also cause serious health problems in the long term. Companies are therefore faced with the challenge of establishing preventative health measures in the workplace that can be seamlessly integrated into everyday working life. This is precisely where Isa as a digital health solution - with proven success. Scientific studies show that Isa can sustainably improve sitting and movement behaviour. While many prevention approaches fail because they are too generalised or cannot be permanently integrated into everyday working life, Deep Care has achieved a decisive breakthrough with Isa: Users benefit from individually tailored impulses that promote long-term changes in behaviour.

But that's not all: Deep Care is pursuing greater ambitions and has set itself the goal of continuously developing workplace health promotion with innovative technologies. In co-operation with the Institute of Sports Science of the KIT a subsidised innovation project was therefore launched to further develop the digital health offering around Isa in a targeted manner. The latest functions make health support even more personalised, precise and efficient. The improvements not only increase the acceptance and impact of Isa, but also bring real added value for companies that want to promote the long-term health of their employees.

1. individualised onboarding: the first step towards sustainable change

The success of digital health solutions depends largely on how well they are tailored to the individual user. Isa now provides employees with even more targeted support right from the start.

In addition to tried-and-tested onboarding steps such as specifying basic working conditions, further relevant information is now requested:

  • Working styleIs the person mainly active in concentrated individual work or in many meetings?
  • Complaints and motivationDoes the person already have pain? If so, where? Or is the use of Isa primarily motivated by prevention?
  • Individual familiarisation phaseIn the first five days, Isa gets to know the user, recognises patterns and adapts the coaching strategy accordingly.

This targeted approach ensures that Isa is not perceived as a standard tool, but as a personal digital health coach that adapts to the needs of its users.

2. Optimised gaze direction analysis: promote concentration, avoid fatigue

Isa can now recognise even more precisely where her gaze is directed in the workplace. Why is this important? Because incorrect viewing angles over a long period of time can favour back, neck and headaches and have a negative impact on vision.

The new line of sight analysis enables two decisive improvements:

  • Targeted eye relaxationIsa recognises when the eyes are under excessive strain and gives proactive advice on how to relieve it. One example of this is the recommendation to regularly look into the distance for 20 seconds. This simple exercise relieves the eye muscles, reduces screen fatigue and prevents headaches. Isa reminds users at appropriate moments to consciously take their eyes off nearby objects and relax their eyes.
  • Respect phases of concentrationIf someone is deeply engrossed in their work, Isa deliberately refrains from giving hints so as not to distract them. At the same time, Isa interrupts at moments when it is assumed that cognitive performance is already declining in order to prevent fatigue.

3. Smarter timing optimisation through deep learning

One of the most common criticisms of digital health solutions is the timing of interventions. If a notification appears during an important meeting or an intensive phase of work, it can be perceived as disruptive. Isa is now able to better solve these challenges:

  • Recognition of meetingsIsa analyses whether a person is in a meeting (whether digitally or in person) and refrains from intervening in these moments.
  • Recognising individual work rhythmsIsa learns when typical work interruptions such as coffee breaks take place or when working hours begin and end.
  • Intelligent pattern analysisIsa analyses daily behaviour and identifies patterns in everyday working life in order to trigger health interventions in a targeted manner and at the right time. This not only identifies recurring habits such as work phases or sitting postures, but also subtle changes in behaviour.
  • Optimisation of coaching according to behavioural patternsFor example, if someone is working from home on Wednesdays to Fridays and is more likely to follow the exercises there than in the open-plan office, Isa adapts the intervention strategy accordingly.

This data-based optimisation of the interaction between Isa and users significantly increases the acceptance of coaching, as measures are played out when they best fit in with the individual work rhythm. This continuous adaptation ensures that health measures are integrated into everyday life without being perceived as additional effort.

4. More transparency through personalised health reports

As a digital health offer, Isa shows an evaluation of the dominant posture.
The digital health solution Isa regularly analyses working habits.

Regular self-reflection helps to establish long-term behavioural changes. Isa now provides detailed reports that not only visualise progress, but also potential problem areas. The reports include:

  • Pain analysis and target achievementHas the health situation improved or worsened?
  • Seating posture analysisWhich sitting posture is dominant? What are the long-term risks?
  • Individual activity patternsHow often does the person exercise? Are there any risk factors due to lack of exercise?
  • Environmental analysisHow do factors such as light, noise or air quality affect health?
  • Targeted coaching adjustmentsIf necessary, new training programmes or specific measures are proposed.

These new features make Isa an even better digital health programme for employees and provide health managers in companies with a powerful tool.
