DeepDive BGM - Pulse Check

The aim of the DeepDive BGM - Pulse Check 2024 is to provide a holistic picture of health management in companies in the DACH region. Both the area of occupational health and safety and the area of health promotion were analysed in detail.

This Pulse Check is intended to shed some light on the OHM market and serve as an inspiration and benchmark for those responsible for OHM, HR managers and management. Especially in times of increasing sick days and an ageing population, the question arises: How do companies support their employees with health-promoting working conditions?

Key Learnings:

Implementation of BGM

The spread of OHM as an important area in German companies is enormous. A large proportion of companies rely on holistic OHM or at least implement several areas such as occupational health and safety, workplace health promotion (BGF) or workplace integration management (BEM). In doing so, they mainly pursue the goals of "reducing sick leave" and "increasing employee satisfaction".

Challenges in BGM

Above all, the lack of priority among decision-makers prevents those responsible for OHM from implementing it even better. Two other major challenges contribute precisely to this priority. The lack of sustainable effectiveness and the lack of measurable success do not necessarily lead to a strengthening of prioritisation, which is why OHM managers are mainly looking for sustainably effective measures that promise long-term success.

Risk assessment

The risk assessment (AR) is carried out by almost all companies. In most cases, psychological hazards are also taken into account here, either as part of the risk assessment or as an additional survey of the workforce and subsequent derivation of measures. However, the situation is completely different for employees working from home. Despite the growing number of home office workplaces in recent years, only a quarter of companies carry out risk assessments in the home environment.

Extract from this white paper

Health in general has long been one of the megatrends of our time. For years, we have seen that this topic has become increasingly important in people's lives around the world. The Majority of company representatives surveyed of the Pulse Check (84 %) convinced that the importance of OHM will continue to increase in the coming years. On the other hand, only 15 % the opinion that the Importance remains the same and less than 1 % thinks that the importance will decrease in the coming years. This clearly shows that OHM is an issue that companies must continue to address - also taking into account the annual increase in the number of illnesses in Germany.

Particularly in view of the sharp rise in sick days in recent years, there is a clear ambition on the part of health managers to do even more for the health of employees in the future. Whether the OHM will succeed in convincing management of this necessity in order to raise the necessary funds is another matter. Here we would like to take a look at what is already being implemented in OHM today. The question now arises: How exactly has BGM been implemented in the company to date? And are the legally prescribed fields of action such as occupational health and safety and integration management already integrated into the OHM?

Among the companies surveyed 39 % already have a holistic OHM system in place. which covers all key areas of occupational health management. 4 % of the companies, on the other hand, have no OHM concept at all. The remaining 57 % only implement individual areas of the OHM, while others are neglected. This indicates a fragmented approach in which measures exist side by side without being strategically linked....
